I'm planning to use the 5 gal buckets (i.e. from Lowes or Home Depot) with the lids you can buy from here:

Our wooden ones can be a nightmare to clean out and keep mite free there has to be a better way.

Any photos of some easy clean and easy to make nesting boxes would be appreciated. I need some Ideas to keep them off the ground as we do get snakes and I need to be able to make sure the snakes cant hide under them either.

Any advice is appreciated

There is no egg eating snake on this planet that is unable to access any hen nest despite how high or in which manner the nest is constructed, hung, or mounted. I am unconcerned with a no-shoulders hiding under a hen's nest as much as I am concerned with the no-shoulders taking refuge inside the nest where I am likely to poke my hands and fingers in the search for eggs.

Wooden nests are simple to keep relatively mite free.
