I got these Swedish hen hatching eggs a week ago. My thermometer had been acting up this week but stayed in the range of 98 to 99. Well I got this new thermometer and put it in there and it’s reading 102! This leads me to believe it’s been at 102 roughly all week. I don’t see any veins appearing. So does that mean they’re as good as gone?

Did you put them in the incubator a week ago? Have you candled?
If the egg lights up like a lightbulb it probably isn’t good.
‘Did you test your thermmete and calibrate? Look up how to d that on YouTube if you need help.

I put them in the incubator as soon as I got home from getting them 7 days ago. And they did light up but they did that when I candled them When I first got them as well. I made sure it was calibrated as well and it unfortunately seems like the number is accurate. I should also mention it’s a still air incubator as well. Which I heard are supposed to run higher?

Do you by chance have pictures of you candling today? It’s normal if they light up like that before you put them in the Incubator. At 7 days they should still light up but should have veins and a black spot. Where did you get these eggs?A trusted source? If all of your thermometers are accurate then why is one differen? Yes still air incubators should run higher.

I can post a pic now. I got them from a woman I’d never got eggs from before but a few people recommended her for eggs. The thermometer on the incubator itself it’s the accurate but the new ones I got today are. These are two different eggs. I hate to say it but should I crack one open to check what’s inside?

It hard to see if they are growing a chick inside. If you aren’t in a hurry, I would keep them in there for another 4-5 days and come back with more pictures. It will be easier to see if there is anything developing. Also if you put them in 7 days ago you could the first day as day 0 so you are on day 6 now.

Alright. Hopefully all is well. I don’t have much hope for the one that lit up yellow but the others light up that same orange and it looks like the yolk is getting bigger? Also does the egg color matter? These are a dark tan so would that possibly obscure a developing embryo or veins?

The color of the egg does matter. White eggs will be easier to see then egg colors like yours. I hope that it just hard to see day 10 or 11 veins will be much easier to see then day 6.

I’ll post an update here in 4 days. Just hoping that they’re all fine and make it okay.
