Need info about my duck

I have 2 mallard ducks a male and a female . My male duck had started to loose his feathers on his back and wings ..he is now bold in a large area of his back the female has not lost any that I see I'm woundering if it is because I have had to move them back in a cage because my dogs started to kill my checkens and I didn't want them getting the ducks to i only put them in the outside pin where there swimming hole is during the day how do i fix his feather loss or is it normal..

Not normal but happens in a molt. How old are they. If too confined that can happen.
