Need info on Cuckoo Marans!

Don't assume you have cuckoos just because they have white feet. Theres a lot of barred rocks from hatcheries, and even some breeders, that have barred rocks with white feet. Its not correct as far as the standard goes, but they are still out there. So if you were told you have barred rocks, its very likely you actually do.

The lighter color are males, darker females. There are some exceptions to this but someone with more knowledge of genetics would have to explain. I think it has to do with having 1 or 2 barring genes.
Also if you are not sure if it's a barred rock or cuckoo marans look at the pattern of barring. It is much more uniform in a barred rock.
Can you post pictures ? That always helps.

I have 10 clean legged Cuckoo Maran Hens and 1 Feather legged Cuckoo Maran Roo. They are very gentle and loving birds. They are excellent egg layers and I just hatched out 16 of their eggs, so I have 16 little fuzzballs in my brooder,10 or 11 of which are feather legged. They seem to go broody real easy too. I have a broody that is on 12 eggs right now. She lets me look under her and doesn't attack. None of my flock have attacked or fought. My roo has a huge spur and has never ever even attempted to flog. I look forward to having more of them!

Also, with the egg coloring they are really dark, but I've read and been told as the hen gets further in its laying cycle the eggs will lighten up.

I have one Cuckoo Maran Roo, he's almost a year old and he's wonderful. He's gentle, calm, easy on the girls, he's even sweet with the babies. He eats out of my hand, lets me pet him when he's on the roost but isn't crazy about being picked up and held. I just need to get him some C.Maran gals to play with LOL
