When a hen lays an egg, how long can it be at room temperature before incubating?? I bought some chicks this weekend and the guy said he gathers his and puts them in baskets and incubates within 14 days...

That about right anything after 14 days the hatch rate goes down. I've held eggs back for 2 weeks waiting on other eggs I had ordered to arrive. That way I could set them at one time.

Added: I tilt the carton daily that the eggs sit in to keep the yolk from sticking to the shell.

That is neat.....I've always thought straight from the chicken to the bator....Now I can hold some back...They need to be at room temp, right?
