Ok, so I have a dilema with my geese and and hoping someone could help me.....
I will give a little back story to explain how I got to my "situation". I have a large pond and wanted some ducks & geese swimming around to look at. To get started, I bought 6 pekin ducks from one person and 2 juvenille African geese from another person. I wasn't happy with the way the juvenille geese looked, so a few days later I bought a large Chinese & African from a local guy. Both are males, but were raised together and are buddies, so no problems. When I brought them home the mature geese became "boss" and the juvenille geese went along with it. All is well so far LOL. As time went on, the big Chinese fell in with the pekin ducks, spending most of his time on the water with them herding them around and keeping them from fighting with the other ducks ( we have 20 ducks, different breeds, at this point), while the big African spends a large portion of his time on the pond bank grazing. He swims, but not near as much as the Chinese. All was going well for several weeks and then a friend gives me a bonded pair of Chinese, full grown male & female. I thought there would be an issue with the two adult Chinese males and the one lady LOL, but I was hoping it would work out. So far it has not. The new Chinese and my existing Chinese have fought many, many times, with the new one seeming to come out on top, however the big African comes to the rescue and whips up on the new Chinese every time. The new Chinese male will seek out my existing male for a fight. Now it seems as the new Chinese pair have exiled my existing male and I noticed his big African buddy who didn't swim too much before is now on the water almost constantly and stays between them. I know all animals figure out their order and I'm fine with that, but there is drama on the pond and no one is happy. The geese are at each other and the ducks are stressed and my relaxing pond is like a soap opera hahaha. So my question is.... should I get another Chinese female for my lone Chinese male? Will that balance out things or should I just get rid of the new pair that is causing the friction? Any input would be appreciated.
