Need input PLEASE!

Headed to the feed store right now. What do you usually give for food while tube feeding? And what size tube?
For tubing I use a size 18 french urinary catheter, but if you can't find a catheter you can use a piece of aquarium air line if you melt the end to remove the sharp edges.

Tube fluids first - 8 ml to 12 ml per pound, wait 60-90 minutes and repeat if crop is clear or mostly clear, then one more time in 2-4 hours. Hydration must be corrected before tube feeding food.

The food I use is Kaytee Exact

Thank you! I do have some 1/4" diameter soft clear tubing at home, is that too large? I'll stop and try to find the feed on my way home. If they don't have it anywhere near here will soaked flock raiser crumbles suffice?

1/4" should be fine. Petsmart and Petco are the only two stores I know of that stock the hand feeding powder. If the inside diameter of the tube is large enough you should be able to mix soak it with warm water then purée it in the blender.

You might want to pick up some Pedialyte or Gatorade and tube it first.

Some things I have learned...
Do not tube fluids or food to a hypothermic bird.
Do not tube room temp fluids or food.
Do not tube food to a dehydrated bird.
Do not tube a non responsive bird.

Doing any of the above could kill them.

Thanks so much for your input! We don't have anywhere that I can get the hand feeding food so after I'm sure she's hydrated I'll make a warm mash with the crumbles I have, water and a bit of the Poultry drench vitamins I have.

She's inside EATING on her own!! I literally have the tube right here and she acted interested in something that fell so I sprinkled some crumbles down and she's eating them!
