My 3-4 month old cochin pullet has a prolapse.

I have separated her from my other cochin - rooster about the same age. She is in a small dog crate with pine shavings.

I fed her yogurt mixed with her crumbles this morning and I have put Corid in her drinking water tonight.

She has been on medicated starter/grower crumbles. I've noticed some diarrhea but now it seems her stool is small and dark. She is definitely straining very hard and even making tiny noices. Each time I have lubed her and slid her back into place, shortly later she has strained it out again. I've used Prep-H and honey.

If she has cocci, how soon should I see improvement or decline.

She is acting OK.

I don't think there is a vet in my area that treats chickens so I am probably on my own with this.

What are my next steps?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

Additional info: I found the pictures of chicken poo and it appears that her poo is normal. I should have copied the link but maybe you all know it. Hers looks like the 5th normal picture without any of the white part. (I never thought I would be describing animal scat on the internet!)

Her vent is still extruded and won't stay where I put it.

thanks for the help

You can try sprinkling white sugar on the prolapse. I don't know why it works, but it does (most times.) Something about the sugar drying up the moisture.

Sadly, hens who have prolapsed once become more prone to prolapsing again later. Might be better not to breed this one, as it may be heritable too.

Sorry about your hen.
