Ok so my son's first 4h fair is tomorrow and I washed blow dried and fluffed the 3 chickens I was planning to bring, well I opened there coop (they have to be 5 months or under) and 2 flew out and my rooster attacked them bad now I dont have many options as far as show birs but I can't tell my son (8) We have no birds to take , anyway these are my only options and 2 have to go any votes??? Granted I know these are pet quality but there all I have.

This is Abby my 12 week old white silkie concern she never raises her tail always lower than her head some her feathers on her wings look frazzled all the time.

Well I can only give you my opinion on this.
I think that I would let your son pick the bird he thinks is the better bird.
I will let you in on this I would try to steer him away from the Barred Rock.
It has a bad body type, the barring isn't all that good so that wouldn't be a good bird to take.
That leaves the 2 silkies to pick from let him pick the bird thats all in the fun of showing...

Im not trying to be mean about this I would like to see him pick the bird..

He will have final say but he asked me to get a vote because he wants to take them all no offense taken 4H is fun and he ALWAYS makes the final choice so definatly agree with you. WE just thought it would be fun to do a vote.

The white is the best of the three. They are ALL too young, but since those are your choices. Let him choose, but give him the opinions expresssed here about the birds. As his mom, I bet you know how to steer him toward a choice you prefer without completely making the choice for him

First of all, silkie wings SHOULD be tattered. That is the point of silkie feathering. Her tail looks better than many I see posted. Do make sure she has 5 toes on EACH foor, and the correct comb. Check the same with the partridge. I don't know barred rocks that well (love them as pets and for the layer flock, just not tuned into exhibition fine points), but you will want to ensure that there are no obvious DQs.

As Sonoran Silkies "hinted", We, as parents, are there to assist and provide support and occasional guidance. BUT, the JOB is the child's.....to fail and try again.....THAT is the "essence" of learning........which will help them in any later endeavor.
