I had gotten 2 SLW chicks from Ideal last year...ordered pullets. Well they both got red combs and so I assumed they were boys and sold them. Then someone told me that both sexes get red combs, just the males will be bigger. I had nothing to compare them to, since I ordered 2 females. I learned my lesson not to get rid of them so fast now, I am still kicking myself lol.

Mine problem is that when I raised this chick's parents, I could easily distinguish which one was pullet and roo, due to coloring and comb development. The coloring on the roo was ever so much prettier right from the beginning. Since this is the only BLRW chick that I have, I have no one to compare it too!

Looks like a roo to me - I have 6 BLRW that are 6 1/2 weeks old. The pullets combs are not red at all but the boys are larger and red and wattles are coming in too.

Wyandottes are actually a slow maturing breed. With mine, the pullets really don't start getting much pink in their combs till they're several months old. I'm sure hatchery birds mature faster tho.
Here's a couple of some of mine at 6 weeks. In the second one you can see the red in the little roo's comb to the left in the picture.
