At the end of February when we ordered our cornish rock broilers from Ideal we also recieved a bunch of golden laced cochins as packing peanuts. There are 5 of them. For some time I have suspected that one of them might be a pullet. They are now 15 weeks old and are living with my parents on their ranch. Mom has started to suspect the same thing. This dear little bird is smaller than the other cockerls and is at the bottom of the pecking order. He/she knows what to do with grubs and tomatoes worms (that we put in their coop) while the others just kinda stare at them like "what in the world is this". He/she gets right in there and snatches it and runs off, and only then do the others say "hey we might be missing out on something...better give chase." This chick is less colorful than the others but has a respectable comb and wattles. I was just wondering if someone could post a picture of one of these hens so I could compare.

I looked at the one on Feathersite and I can't tell if they are just like my birds. We had the hardest time figuring out what they were and finally decided they were gold laced. What I don't know is how fast this breed develops. If "she" were the only pullet, I don't think it would go well for her. Since these birds are 15 weeks old, should we be looking for "her" to lay in about 3-4 wekks (ie. 18weeks old) if "she" is a pullet?

I guess I would like to see an adult bird mainly, but it would be nice to see some chick pictures as well so that I know if what I have really is a gold laced cochin or not.

Carol,
Thank you so much. When this hen was younger, were her feathers less brilliant? Just wondered if her feathers became more golden when she got her adult set of feathers. Our bird is not as brilliantly colored and is infact quite dark. Her tail feathers are black but she has a lot of gold strips in her flight feathers and saddle. Her leg feathers are mostly black as well with some gold in them. Could she be a mutt? I wish I could post a picture, but my DH is cleaning his study and in no mood to "stop for chicken world." I do have some photos of the birds from about a month ago and if I can cajole him into helping me get them off my camera and on to here I will post them later.

Sorry, she already was that color when I got her. My DH liked her color!

Maybe I'll find more pics.
