I'd like to build a run for my future chickens. Last time we did it we dug a ditch all around the perimeter and buried chicken wire about a foot to deter digging predators. The walls were chicken wire with netting on top. Wood frame with posts in concrete.

    Are there better/easier ways?

You can have the metal cloth wire extend down and out from the sides about 18 inches and then burry it a bit. the rodent cant get past it.. we used pressured wood in holes havent had problems We also have a 1 x 6 all around the bottom of the run..

Most people would encourage you to use 1/2" or 1" hardware cloth instead of chicken wire because it is much stronger. Some people do not sink it, instead the do what is called an apron and slide a piece of hardware cloth extended a foot to 2 feet on either side under the dirt so if anyone tries to dig, the hardware cloth will prevent them from doing so. You can secure them with chain link stakes, tent stakes, etc.
