Need Rooster opinions!!

Hello all!
My rooster was killed. RIP Whiskey! We're going to be placing an order for chicks soon and haven't decided on a Rooster breed. Any suggestions?
Do you currently have a flock of pullets/hens?
I would strongly suggest you get a rooster that someone is rehoming that you can go visit to see how he interacts with people and treats the girls. I would also suggest getting a rooster that has been broody raised and raised with a senior rooster and in a multi-generational flock. Not a bird that was an "oops" cockerel. The boys raised by a flock are much better birds IMO.

My last boy was supposed to be a hen but he was just a juvenile. She was raised by a much much bigger flock. We brought him and a few girls home and then it became apparent that he was a male. He loved his girls and he was manageable as well. I think your idea of getting a flock raised roo is very smart.

I've had both kinds. My senior rooster I raised from a chick with my first batch of ordered chicks. He's an awesome boy but he hates my guts and lets me know whenever he gets the chance... which isn't often these days!
His sons are incredible too. One of them went on to be a flock leader and defended his girls by attacking a hawk, not just sounding the alarm.
These flock raised boys are not cuddle bugs. They have a healthy respect for humans but learn much needed chicken manners. Breeding skills come with practice and practice they do!

That's ok! I'm not concerned about cuddly, I'm just not interested having a showdown every time I go look for eggs.
