I am not a new member, but can't follow the suggestion someone made---cannot get on the Colorado thread. When I start to post, the site doesn't give "threads-Colorado" as an option.
I have an 8-bird hen house in a residential neighborhood in North Boulder. I am retired and like to travel, e.g., other CO places to look at wild birds. Last year I traveled south and saw penguins.
Children in my 'hood used to care for hens while I was away, but they are all off to university.
I would be happy to pay for their care or trade times looking after someone else's flock. I have discovered that it does not work to mix flocks.
When I have meat scraps from dinner, I cannot put them in the compost, but I give them to hens, who turn them into proper compost. I have to laugh at people who are shocked to learn that chickens really like meat. Haven't they ever heard of the early bird getting the worm?
I also have a trap which turns pesty flies into hen treats--must drown the flies a little first.
