Hi I never hatched an egg before so I just saw my rooster mate with one of my hens and I wanted to know wether he mated with them before so I wanted to know how to determine if they are fertile. I looked up some videos and most people had them incubated for a few days does that mean I incubate them and then candle them or can I do it without incubating them. I don’t want the eggs to rotten or anything.

If you are going to use the eggs for cooking fill a small bowl with water (big enough to allow an egg sink below water, place egg in carefully if the egg floats its a bad egg, if the egg sinks to the bottom it is good. This is only if you are going to cook the egg. If you are going to let the hen sit leave the egg and she'll take care of things.

Fertile eggs have a ring around the white dot. Crack an egg into a bowl and if there's a ring, it's fertile. I'd guess yours are unless the rooster's really bad at his job.

And the hen won't "take care of things" unless she's gone broody.
