I never heard of such a thing
but the thing will probably kill her

with no feed in her and she is hot
that means some fever
and something causes her not to have food
can you get any water down her with eye dropper
taking it in and putting it in her beak
she is no doubt dehydrated
the vetrx could help her by rubbing in on the head and under wings
and give her 1/2 tsp of it

also put 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar in pint of water
and give it to her by eye dropper

she needs water
do you have any of that kind of tubing to put water into the chickens throat?
do the best you can for her

any questions email me

Hi, I had a baby cockatiel who ruptured an air sack. The air would leak out and gather under the skin, I dont know if the same thing can happen with chickens but the symptoms sound the same.
For the cockatiel I took a small sterile needle and released the air. Make sure not to hit a tiny vein.
Eventually the tear in the air sack should heal but if you dont release the air the tear will get bigger.
Cockatiel babies are very sensitive and sometimes they make it through it and sometimes they dont. Hopefully chickens are tougher.

I Googled subcutaneous emphysema in chickens. That is the medical term for air trapped under the skin. Looks like e. coli and s. aureus are the most likely causes. In other words, she has an air leak inside, probably caused by a systemic infection.

I hope you separated her immediately. I'd suggest you Google this term and read for yourself.

I am so sorry to hear about this

If it is an impacted crop, my little Ginger died a couple months ago now from this....but there was someone else at the same time that saved their chick with the same problem. I would search impacted crop. There was a solution they used to save her. I hope it helps your chick.

basically E.coli can be helped with the
wet mash probiotic with Vit E and Vit B complex

basically here is what I would do for the chickens
the affected chick has a neurological disorder

the help for a nurological disease is this

well first question
Was he vaccinated for mareks?

the best thing for him is the
wet mash probiotic with Vit E and Vit B complex
this will help his nervous system which is being attacked at this time
because you see discordanation in his attempt to walk okay

do this
***

(A) natural probiotic wet mash with Vit E and Vit B complex added immediately
basically the chicken has some nerve damage do this immediately
need neurolodigal vit E and Vit B complex for nervous disorder Also the apple cider vineager in water

(1) 2 tbsp per gallon of water till chickens are well and the 2 times a week for life
for one chicken use 1 tbsp of ACV
1 pint of water

(2 immediately give the chicken 1000 mg capsule of liquid Vit E by cutting the end of the capsule and taking the vit E liquid and mix in wet mash probiotic

(2-B) total amt of capsules equals the total amt of chickens fed vit's

(3 also need to crush a vit B complex pill in tabsp and add it the chickens wet mash after it is disolved

(3-C) then give this to the chicken twice a week for two weeks should see much improvement

(4 Do both Vit's twice today then for 7 days till you see some improvement in the chicken

(5 today I would see if the chicken will eat a wet mash with the Vitamins E and B complex

(-B) THIS IS FOR ONE CHICKEN multiply by amt of chickens feeding this to
it won't hurt all those chickens to eat this

natural probiotic wet mash
2 tbp of dry crumbles
3 tbp of milk sweet, sour or buttermilk
1 tbsp of non flavored yogurt
1 tbsp of apple sauce
put it on top so the chicken can smell and see it
mix good and put the
vit E liquid as directed in the wet mash
and crumble the Vit B complex tablet in a tabsp and add to the wet mash

**BESURE AND MIX VIT'S VERY GOOD IN WET MASH***

(6 Do this twice a day for 7 days to see if the chickens are better
then do this once a day for another week then once a week for a while
this should give the nervous system some stability

(6-A) they should clean it up in 20-30 minutes

(7 you can email by PM for more information and include this inf so I remember what is happening

Thats what it is... she has air trapped.I looked the old thread about it and itseems it happend somehow.
I cant get to any of teh sgtuff listed here until tomorow..
The probiotic I have here from jeffers , also VetRX.
I have to wait til tomorow until I get a needle and get rid of the air..It suggested making a slit in the skin but I cant do that .It will have to wait til tomorow for the needle.I gave her some water.. she didnt appreciate that at all. All i can do for her tonight is supportive care and hopefully she makes it.
Not sure how this happend .. No clue. I hope she makes it thru the night.

Not sure on all the other stuff listed tho.I am not sure its e.coli tho.
I think from reading about it.. its the subcute. air trapped..

its gonna be a rough nite..

do you not have a way to sharpen a small paring knife?
that is what my daddy used to do when he had a animal with it

after sharpening the tip of the knife cut the slit in the skin

also you could take and put tape on a new razor blade and just leave the tip out with out tape and cut the slit in the skin to relieve the air

try this or call some one that may have a razor blade it will work

any questions email

after she is okay the vit E will help the nervous system of the bird from the trama

I think I need to make myself a little clearer (not unusual for me!)

Subcutaneous emphysema is a symptom, not a disease. From what I googled, systemic infections caused by organisms like e. coli or s. aureus are often the cause of the rupture in the air sac, causing the emphysema. If that is the case, I am not at all sure you can resolve the infection at this point. In a human it would be a medical emergency.

But we don't know what is causing the trapped air; the above is only a guess from a quick google search.

The trouble is, if most of the air is in the crop, I'm not sure that poking a needle in there is a good idea. A needle into a bubble under the skin is not the same as a needle into part of the digestive tract. Glenda has a whole lot more experience with chickens than I do. I don't know if she means penetrate the crop or just try to get just below the skin.

I don't even know what I would do, in your shoes.
