Need some convincing

In my research I hear the snakes are attracted to and eat the eggs. Also, they might injure or kill chickens. I see at least 1-2 snakes each summer before having chickens. I hear hardware cloth will help keep them out.
I guess it depends on what type of snakes you see. I know some like to eat chickens and their eggs but not sure where they are around the US. Maybe we have some in WI and I don't even know it, but I have yet to see any snakes around our chickens and we are in a rural area.

I live southwest Wisconsin and i dont see snakes. I do see mice but have never had a problem.

Hello and welcome to BYC. :frow Glad you joined.
As long as you don't have any openings into your coop and run larger than 1/2" and install a 2 foot predator apron around your set up to prevent mice digging in you should be able to avoid them. Small snakes could still get in but they should fear the chickens, not the other way around.
