One time as I was being prepped to be put under for a surgery, the docs were so serious and gloomy so I blew up a latex glove, drew a dorky funny face on it and tucked it beside me under the drape for them to find after they put me under. They got a kick out of it and said it changed the entire mood of the surgery.
