That looks way nice Stevenson. Looks like you like working with wood too. My husband is in the process of building a run for my little coop I got for some bantams I decided to try. I don't know where you get your wood, but I think my husband enjoys going to Home Depot about as much as he does the actual building.

Oh wow, went to your site after I wrote the above. That looks like a completely different building! And you are lucky you already had that nice wood to work with! It's looking great. Your chickens will love the nice warm..and safe..place to stay at nights.

Very nice coop Stevenson. I want to build my nesting boxes that way, on the outside for easy access.

Well... I have babies everywhere! 4 Silkies (1 white, 2 black, and one partridge?) I have two more silkies to hatch still (already pipped) and a couple that I think won't make it. I have one white crested polish that is really cute. It's not colored like most I have seen. It looks like it has two black eyes.

On the barnyard mixes I think I have about 10 or so that have hatched. So far I have one redish yellow one. The others all look like this..... black with yellow underbellies and yellow tipped wings. Some of them have red heads. I was going to give these away but I may have to keep a few. Will post pics of my chicks soon. Phone is dead but it's charging. So much fun!

I've been out of pocket visiting relatives; someone else has been looking after my incubators. Well, I get back and decide to toss some hen eggs that were in the incubator for 27 days... but some of them were cheeping! Holy smoke, who ever heard of chicken eggs hatching on day 27??? I guess all the power outages caused the huge delay. I imagine that all the eggs in the incubators at that time are going to be at least a couple of days late. I'm going to candle them to make sure there aren't any potential exploders. Yeesh!

I have a question about how long it takes before you help a chick out of an egg? It started piping around 10 a.m. and is really quite now, not even moving.

I just candled my four remaining eggs....no movement. Looks like I am 15/19 of the ones that made it to lockdown. Started with 50 shipped eggs because 4 cracked during shipping (32 eggs took 3 days to get here).

9/12 on Speckled Sussex - 2 day delivery
4/6 Dominique - 2 day delivery
1/5 Barnevelder - 3 day delivery
1/24 Delaware - 3 day delivery (had to help this chick out of the egg...still hoping it will make it)
0/5 Welsummer - 3 day delivery
0/3 Ameraucana - 3 day delivery

15/50 = 30% on shipped eggs - I was hoping for at least 50%

The good news is that both breeders whose eggs took 3 days offered to give me more eggs for the price of shipping! I didn't ask, I don't feel that it is their fault...but I took them up on their offers! I went ahead and bought some extra eggs from one of the breeders as well. I just got an email from her and she is sending 24 eggs, but apparently some of them are a bit old (since I had space in my incubator, she decided to go ahead and send them as well!) so I should have at least 36 eggs to go back into the incubator.

Okay for a first timer I must be doing good, for at 7pm Friday night I got my first pip and as of this minute I have 11 out of 13 that have hatched and I only had to help 3 since they started to shrink wrap on me. So when I went to bed at 11pm last night I had 6 got up at 2am to 9 and hubby got home just a few minutes ago and 2 more had came. Not sure of my % but I started with 18 tossed 5 unfertile one for 13 at lockdown and 11 have came out so far. Not sure on the last two will give them a day or two and see. I would say that is not bad for a incubator that have the temp from 92 to 110 and the humidity from 25% to 90%, so not going to change a darn think about my incubator and start again tomorrow after a slight cleaning. Will post pick later for I am going back to bed, my grandson about worm me out with his visit yesterday and was up a lot with the incubator Friday night.

I've read that with LG's and the foam incubators that is why the % hatches goes down each time. I took screws out of my brinsea, vacuumed, washed with chlorax and water the parts I could and used sanitary wipes on parts I couldn't. Since you had such a good hatch on your first...wanted to make sure you knew that the cleaning was important. (or what I read said so)
