Need some help! What do i have here?

Not always. Ideal has this to say about their production reds: Production Reds are a brown egg layer that was developed for efficient production of large brown eggs. Crosses utilizing Rhode Island Reds and New Hampshire Reds were used in the development of this breed, which is Ideal's most efficient producer of large brown eggs.

I'd say the red hens are probably Red Sex-links(not Gold sex-links) because they don't have any white in their neck and tail feathers. Look on the Feathersite page under sexlink for more details. The roos look to be mixes maybe of a Big red rooster x Light Brahma female being they have feathered legs.

And PotterWatch has a good point there. Finally someone has seen what I've been trying to get across on some other threads.

I say a Rhode Island Red is a Breed.
A New Hampshire is a Breed.
And a "production red" or what everybody calls a "hatchery red" is a Hybrid of the two. That's the bird the hatcheries are selling as Rhode Island Red production strain. That's why they say not for show almost in every hatchery ad you read.

I've read the bloslsfarm article. And it has some great information in it but the hatcheries have their own make-up of what they call a"production red". If you look on their ads you'll see Class: it says Production the same for all the sex-links. It does'nt say American or ect.. Because they are a hybrid of two different Breeds.

Thanks everyone for your opinion - just so you know the big rooster in the middle is named "Little Jerry" - My partners and I are pretty proud of him.

So if I am gathering this right, since he has feathered feet - he is most likely a mixed breed?

I have found out that the rooster is Production Red. Is this the only name or is there an actual breed name?

Thanks!

68mmassey you can go to the thread: What's the differrence between a RIRed and a production red? here in this Forum and get some very interesting facts, points of view, and some all out wild and wacky ideas(mostly because their mine). Ha...
