I got 5 Muscovy ducks yesterday. I was only getting 2 pair but they boy that had them said he got this female that was hit by a car and she was blind in one eye, well when I got there it was an active wound and must have just happened within the last two weeks. I can't see how this duck was hit by a car and the only thing that is wrong with her is her eye???? Anyway is this an injury or disease??? I have all the ducks I got in the seclusion/quarantine pen now. I have vertmicin (sp) to spray on the eye, this is what he gave me and said she is getting better. I know ducks are very hardy and don't fall ill too much. There is one other duck that I noticed a tear coming from her eye but that is all I noticed the tear was clear and not mucus or white or yellow colored.

I have other ducks, geese, turkeys, peafowl, chickens and I don't want to take any chances. If I would have known this duck had an active wound/infection I'd have passed on all of the ducks.

Could have been an over amorous drake too, i had one of my ducks get her face half chewed off by a drake once. and what was his set up like did the ducks have access to head washing water? just asking because they may just need a way to clean their eyes out. Use the veterycin on her i have used it many times in the eyes and around the faces and it's extremely good for wounds and infection. Muscovys are very hardy and hopefully these will be once you can do a little TLC on them. See how she looks in 2-3 days. and please keep us updated.

That looks like a wound, the how to came to be, will be hard to sort, i would think? if she was hit by car, you would see injuries beyond her face?? like in the body.

Anyways, ML has given you advice, when i had a coon attack.. i kept the duck indoor, used wonder dust(which is a livestock power commonly used for horses) and kept the wound clean.

GL, love an update! Did they not treat this wound at all?

Thank you, I don't know if they gave them water to wash in. All the others look really good so maybe it was a drake wound there are two drakes to 3 females, I will be getting rid of a drake or getting more ducks. Thanks for the advice. I will continue the veterycin on her.

I thought I'd see injuries beyond the face too, but there are none. I will keep treating her and hope she heals fast.

I know this post is SUPER old, but, you see, I care for muscovy ducks, and one of them is blind in one eye. He wasn't hit by a car as such, his father is actually blind, therefore he was passed the genetic mutation. Luckily he isn't fully blind, but I do know how to care for them. They need ALOT of nurturing, trust me. I give Kiki daily cuddles :p If you still care for this duck, don't treat her much different then your other babies. The others will notice and get jealous, and she will realise something is wrong with her. What I'm saying, is just care for her, but don't make the others feel left out. Lol. Just message me if you need any help, as I'm not sure how many other people have blind ducks :old
