Need some input on choosing a chicken breed...

They are lovely. I'm putting them on my short list for the next chicken order (probably not for another year, full coop).

No standard breeds that I have ever raised have done well with predators when they are present. They do well free ranging but are too large to fly any distance or be quick enough to evade a fox, racoon, or mink. The larger breeds do better with Avian Predators due to their larger size, but are easy picking for fox or coyote. IMO Games are the only breed that are well suited for true free range, i.e., living in areas with high predator populations. They generally won't lay as much as a Leghorn or Sexlinked but there usually has to be trade off.

I would find my hens up in the very high trees even on top of the house
