Hey there this is the second year of chicks. The first year I had 6 then their coop lit on fire in the winter cause of a heat lamp. I now hate heat lamps and barely want to look at one. I have heard of several different solutions. The Basilia Ecoglow Chick Brooder, 18 watts, no fire hazard, economical, $60. Then I have also heard of the Premier Heat Lamp. One of my nighbors uses it for his lambs.

( is the link to the website. This is $26 with $5.80 for the bulbs. It still has the chance of a fire but much reduced. Also it will put more on the electric bill. If you have had success or no success with these things just gives some opinions, that be great! [IMG]

I'm sorry for the fire, but did it have a heat guard on it?
