OK..... i had a chick this morning that was peeping so loud in the egg, it woke me up this morning, and now its silent. The egg is cracked but not enough for its beak to come out, i put a wet sponge in there as recomended by others. i am nervous bc our first hatch only produced 1 out of 5. 3 never formed and one had a peep hole but died

do u think its ok???

Well, you probably shouldn't have opened the bator, once it cracks the egg then it has oxygen to breath and help it absorb the yolk and get up enough strength to zip.

Hang in there.

This is how we learn.

yup. I think the wet sponge is the opposite of what to do. you need to let the humidity out... chicks can and do drown if their air sack in there isn't big enough.

well the only reason i opened it was bc when my last one pipped but didn't make it someone suggested putting a wet sponge in the incubator. the egg has been cracked for 2 days now, but just started hearing peeps this morning.

If it pipped two days ago, maybe you should help it. I had to help three after I managed to kink the hose for the humidity tray. Humidity had dropped to zero and super glued the shells to them. Good luck and don't beat yourself up.

i know i am not totally out of the woods yet but i am glad i am seeing progress. and its an different egg than i thought, all of our small eggs are hatching but our big eggs arn't fairing to well.....
O YA!!we had one hatch on monday, when this one is warm and ready to come out of the incubator would it be ok if i put him in with the almost week old chick or do u think it would cause problems???
Just found out our incubator is leaking all over the place!!!! o man, i will get through this hatch, i will get through this hatch. i am 7 months pregnant and so emotional i just want it to go well i cried when we lost the other one

Man, you are brave... hatching while your hormones are going nuts! lol

Don't let my comment about the humidity scare you. Just be prepared to have a wet chick that may look weak and deformed... give it about 8-10 hours and it will be up and better. If you do hatch a wet chick... just leave it be. It will get better. I have never had one not get better. I have had about 6 like that before in different hatches.

if you got the egg on the side... you are already doing better. When humidity is high... they hatch better that way. I think if you leave them in a carton when they are already having problems, they can't move about and get air. Just my experience.

Don't panic!!!! put the lid on and wait!

Sometimes chicks take up to 2-3 days to go from pip to out.

well if i set it on its side now would it screw it up?? its in the turner thing, which i have turned off at the moment, and cracking REALLY low

Honestly. I would take them all out of the turner and lay them on their sides. When they hatch... they can and most likely will break legs getting stuck in the turner (lived this!). IF... IF you will be home durring the hatch... you may want to leave it, but be quick about getting the baby out. I had three get stuck in the same hatch and their little legs are very hard to splint. nearly impossible. I felt horrible it was my fault.

No, you won't mess them up... just be slow and deliberate in your movements. I'm sure you would already, but you never know sometimes with people... so I thought I'd make that clear. Be careful when moving eggs.

Be quick enough, though... don't doddle. Put the lid back and then leave it. GOOD LUCK!!! YAY!
