I am building a henhouse/run combo coop... most of it will be open...
Does anyone have any thoughts about how to secure runs: Buried wire vs/ Running the wire 12" in front of the run?

We added hardward cloth a foot deep into the ground and three feet above ground. Hoping it will discourage raccoons. DH doubled the fasteners on it after hearing someone say that a raccoon managed to peel back the hardward cloth from their run.

Best thing we did was to cover the whole thing. Has already paid off as this guy climbed to the top of it hoping to pay the chicks a visit:

Our run and coop is buried down 2 feet. The coop is made from metal roof sheets and my son dug the ground out and started the sides down inside the holes. The attached run is also dug down 2 feet. It was alot of work but I feel it was worth it. We live adjacent to a wildlife management area and have lots of predators.

I didn't bury any wire but I haven't had any predators try to get into my run. My run is covered with plywood for shade.
