We recently purchased some property and are trying to recylce/upcycle as much as possible with what was left behind. There is one building offset from the house that looks like it could have been a horse run in shelter. It has 3 sides and a sloped corrugated metal roof. We are thinking about transforming it into a chicken coop. It's certainly plenty big! It looks similar to the one in the photo. Except not as pretty! I want to pick y'all's brains for ideas on how to transform it.
Thanks!

That's a perfect beginning for an open ended coop with an attached run, which is in turn perfect for your climate. Actually it should have some air flow along the back side as well. In the South, there is no such thing as winter to a chicken, but they struggle with heat and must have shade and breeze in the summer to survive. Here is a thread showing several versions of this style of coop:

Some great ideas there. I've taken pictures and measurements. May fire up the Google Sketchup to see what I can come up with. Will also be taking progress pics along the way. There was a ton of scraps (read-trash) left on this property but we've been trying to find ways to use it instead of adding it to a landfill. I found a ton of chain link fencing that I may use.
Thanks for the link.
