Agreed! I've seen chickens eat the damnest things, including styrofoam.I would worry about the chickens eating that! I would put some scrap linoleum on the floor and cover it with sand for the litter.

.. After reading another thread on BYC, I've started drying out my used coffee grinds to mix in with the pine, I don't know how it will work out, but it smells great, lol!
Yes, Home Depot sells rubber liners. Works great in my coop. Can also get cut to size needed. So my coop floor has some gaps in it, and the pine pellet saw dust falls through. This probably wouldn't be as big of a deal if the chooks didn't scratch at it so much. There's usually a bunch of saw dust underneath my coop in the morning D:
Do you have guys any recommendations as to what I can line the bottom with?
Thanks in advance!
It's used coffee grinds, so it has very little if any caffeine left. The stuff is also all over my garden under my roses, it's one of their favorite dust bathing spots, lol. This sounds interesting. But are you sure that giving coffee grinds is it okay to do?
Thanks I am catching up reading all the info in the tread(s) about used coffee grinds. It's used coffee grinds, so it has very little if any caffeine left. The stuff is also all over my garden under my roses, it's one of their favorite dust bathing spots, lol.
for the bedding, I sun dry the grinds before using. I was inspired by this thread!
It hardens like a rock, and would be under the OPs litter. Can't see how they would be eating it, but ok. Just because one would worry about something doesn't mean that something isn't a valid option. Some people worry about flying on a plane. How many people successfully do that everyday?I would worry about the chickens eating that! I would put some scrap linoleum on the floor and cover it with sand for the litter.

I think a tarp would be too easily torn by chicken's scratching. I used a vinyl floor remnant and I'm very happy. It is smooth so it's super easy to clean and spread bedding around. Not much sticks to it. Some people use vinyl tiles but they aren't as good because of gaps that can let liquid through and dirt accumulate. So my coop floor has some gaps in it, and the pine pellet saw dust falls through. If they can't reach it that would work. But if they can reach it they will probably eat it. I have foam insulation on the underside of the roof of their shed and they started eating it so I had to lower their roost. I would be concerned about them eating it for a few reasons, toxicity and blockage since it doesn't break down. You could use spray foam insulation depending how big the gaps are.
