I CURRENTLY RESIDE IN MINDANAO PHILIPPINES, BUTUAN
I have raised quite a few chicks but never had this problem. I have chicks from 2 days to 1 week and say out of 10 chicks I have to clean their butts of at least 8 twice a day and at that I am still loosing chicks. The poo just cakes up on their butts really thick I need to know if there is something I can do to stop the caking. Thanks just lost another one.

What's the temp in the brooder?...Possibly too cold?..Wash butts and use Vasaline on their butts
The temp is in range at about 98 to 99 but I think I might have figured out what might be wrong. I think my wife bought the 2000 feed instead of the 1000 for starter feeds. Do you think that would be the problem?

Not familiar with that feed?
We are living in the Philippines. The feed store sells the feed 1000 for day old chicks. 2000 for 6 week old up. The food in the 2000 would be a larger crumble where the 1000 is very fine crumble. This just might be the problem. Just not sure

I had it with quail chicks mostly, oddly after I added aphids from a plant outside that was crawling with them to their diets, they didn't have any issues. I know it wasn't the protein amount and I give them the proper sized and type of feed, so it might have been something else that they were missing from their diet that was causing it, which the aphids filled.

Kinda hard to get aphids in winter though. So I gotta wait til next summer to experiment again to see if it was the aphids preventing the pasty butt or just luck.
