After you have the carpet cleaned are you planning on using diapers on your chickens????

I am having a hard time imagining having to clean my CARPET because of chicken poo.....

Ok, you need to look up chicken diapers here and order some. Chicken poop all over the house is probably not healthy. I understand the bird in the house, but I think you need those diapers.

I can't see the harm. I definitely would keep the bird off the carpet. You can buy chicken diapers from several sources or even make your own from a disposable baggie. Newspapers on the linoleum are a good choice for playtime, too. Just noticed Moodene is selling them here.

Depends on what they use on the carpet. if you can stuff birdie in the bathroom until the rugs dry...that might be good. I need to do that also... Chicken diapers are a godsend.

I also have a house chicken.

Oh My Another Eccentric Person, huh?

PPl don't realize how intelligent a chicken is & how loving & loyal & when our chick was younger & my daughter slept in the room with him, he snored.Who could not love that?

Yea, thats my plan, put the chicken in the bathroom, fan on, light off, have some loud music && hope all goes well.

Our chicken is a biggun now && I don't know how he'd accept diapers.Instead of giving him the whole bedroom [well, actually he took it] We are gonna put him in a round circular puppy cage && put screen on the top to keep him in and is wood shavings ok for the floor && scoop the poop? I've been doing the newspapers and not so nice. Also we'll be putting down a piece of plywood to protect the rug.

The maintence man came in because of our water heater and we got in trouble for dog urine, so we are forced into cleaning the rug.

If he only knew who was in the other room......

I recently did my carpets as DH brought home a puppy that we could not housebreak. He would be outside in the fenced in yard for hours but would come inside to pee. I bought the usual pet stain shampoo to use but it did not take out the stains. When I ran out I didn't have anything to use so I tried my homemade laundry soap. I put it in a sprayer and sprayed the stains and they completely disappeared. So I put it into the carpet cleaner. Not only did it take care of the new stains but it also took care of the old stains I had on the carpet for years. It is also safe for the animals so I didn't have to worry. Here is the recipe if you don't have it .
1/2 bar of fels naptha or zote laundry soap (I use zote)
1 cup borax
1 cup color safe bleach (from dollar store)
The original recipe calls for 1/2 cup of borax and 1/2 cup of washing soda but I can not find washing soda anywhere around here so I double the borax.
Grate the bar of soap mix ingredients into 6 quarts of water heat until soap flakes melt.
separate into 2 1 gallon jugs (3 quarts in each )fill jug with cold tap water and shake. allow to sit for 24 hours then use.
I don't let it sit that long only until it cools. You can also cut this recipe in half Believe me it works much better than the stuff you buy. Hope this helps Micki

OOh! Thanks for that recipe! Our carpet has gotten pretty nasty, though no pets in the house contributing. I wonder if it would work on red clay? And whatever the heck those black spots are in front of the recliner ...
