I bought 5 Bourbon Red poults this past spring. Lost one right away and wouldn't ya know, the remaining 4 are hens. Just my luck. I picked one out for Turkey Day and still have 3. I want to breed them so I need a Tom.
How would you go about this? Option 1 is order chicks. With my luck, they will all be hens too. Option 2 is buy a Tom. I like the idea of option 2 the best. But I could always sell the extras from option 1 to fund a part of my fowl habit (pun intended).
Buying a Tom... I've seen them for sale before but I am leery about bringing an outsider in. Who knows if the guy is fertile, has a disease, etc. I just don't know enough about Turks yet to feel comfortable buying from an auction. Heard way too many horror stories.
