Need to add some more ventilation

So here is my coop:

doors closed

I need to add some more ventilation to help with the fly issue I'm having this summer, which was not an issue at all last summer.

Where do you think would be the best place to add some more window or "vents"

I was thinking maybe ones in the door? With a sliding piece of plexi glass that can close them off in the colder month.

The coop is built into my garage (which has open windows in it)

I was also thinking of just putting up some bird netting over one of the doors and leaving one door open (since it's in the garage I don't have predators in there) but I fear the chickens getting loose still and pooping all over the garage

Any suggestions? How did you add ventilation to your coop? Care to share photos?

How about one on the roof, this would be the best place to allow heat to escape.

Thank for the reply I forgot to mention I have 2 vents in the roof of the coop that are like the heating vents in homes, that you can open and close. I only have two though, do you think it needs more?

since the structure doesn't need a roof why not just wire the top ? being in the garage like that i would go with as much wire as possible instead of building a box.

I agree with Flopshot, but since you do have vents in the roof...then vents along the bottom will allow air to "draw" up and through. This would also eliminate any "stale" air.

also, have you thought about running a vent to the outside of the garage for real fresh air?

In our garage, we have a very similar set up and when the looong, cold spring ended here, i put a screen door on! All I did was mark out the opening, jig saw it out with the door on, chicken wire on the inside and kept the cut out so I can batten it back on in the cooler months leaving the screen where it is. For some reason we are having a fly problem this year too. It is great fun for the chickens but annoying to me. I see lots of little flying insects in the garage at night too and don't know if some dairy barn spray would be good or not? They do not bite the birds, just icky. I do not like bugs!

I like the idea about the vent on the bottom to direct the air, good idea!

I'd be afraid to only wire the top as we have very long cold winters in Michigan and the garage is not attached the house (and not insulated, although the wall inside the coop are)

maybe you can cut a small window and put hinges on it, this way you can have some more ventilation and are able to close the window if desired...
