Anyone with Ideas on How to catch a Rat??

How big is this rat? When I tended horses in high school the rats would come eat the spilled horse feed. They were huge. I bought the huge rat traps and they could carry them off after the trap snapped them. I had to put a eye screw in them and crimped weedeater line from the trap to a stake. When it snapped them they could not carry the trap off. I caught some the size of squirrels.

Good luck!!

Those snap traps are handy, they're economical and you can see what you've caught. You must be sure to set them where no other animals can get caught in them -- especially your chickens! That's a good idea, to fasten them with a screw eye & wire so the larger rats can't carry them away. You can also drive nails up through the underside by the bait pedal, to hold them & prevent them from squeezing out.

These kind of live traps also work http://www.havahart.com/store/live-animal-traps/xsmall

And there's a way to devise a trap using a barrel of water and something that goes over it, I forget what, that causes the rat to fall into the barrel when it tries to scamper across. Does anyone else know how to make something like this?
