Need to cull two chicks

Go ask the neighbor kid to do it. That is what I had to do. I couldn't cull a badly wounded chick so I went next door as the boy to do it. He is a farm raised boy understands those things. Not a mean kid at all, but he was able to take care of what I couldn't.

I would have to say severing the spinal cord in anyway in very humane.....but very very hard to do, even when you know its for the best. When it needs to be asap thats what I do. When its not an emergency i use the dry ice method.

I would bring them to the vet to have them euthanized. Unfortunately, I had to do this a few times but I know they never suffered. They just drifted off to sleep.

An experienced farmer friend of mine culled a badly spray legged chick for me and my wife just today.

She gave the bird a good dose of gin with a medicine dropper to make the baby go to sleep. Then she took a kitchen knife to the three week old baby's neck.

She said it hurt my wife wife (who got the ominous job of bringing the baby chick to her) more than it hurt the baby....

I agree some sharp sheers or super sharp knife is more humane than the freezer. They don't just peacefully fall asleep in the freezer, they actually go into hypothermia and slowly loose consciousness.. HUGS!
