Hello! We are starting out having backyard chickens. We ordered our coop and baby chick supplies -- now we need to get some chicks. We want to stick with 3 - 4; most places, like TSC, require a minimum purchase of 6. We are looking for hens (we are fairly urban and don't want to make people mad with a rooster) that are good layers, not too large (not bantams, though) and cold hardy. Does anyone have any to sell or can anyone recommend someone to contact? Thanks!!

Welcome to BYC. You could order from a hatchery. Meyer Hatchery and MyPetChicken sell as little as 3 chicks depending where you live. Shipping isnt cheap, but you'll have the guarantee that they can be sexed and arrive alive without any problems or they will replace or refund you.

Not anymore trouble than 4. Our TSC sell chicks that are labeled pullets so there shouldn't be and roos in the batch. Good luck, you will enjoy them a lot.

Were about in Central Indiana do you live? I live about 5 minutes from downtown and have 3 grown roosters and a few serama chick cockerals. If you need any help or have questions feel free to pm me about anything
