I'm wanting to start raising chickens. I've done some research and decided to go with Buff Orpingtons - quiet, docile, good layers, and pretty. We'd like to raise them from chicks - I know no eggs for first few months. Anything I definitely need to know before starting - live in southern IN.

mine took exactly 20 weeks to lay the first egg. i have two buff orps and i love them. i can not think of anything you need to know.....they are a good choice imo.

Hi

I have 20+ Buff Orpingtons, they're quiet, gentle, good layers and go broody every now and then. I had most of my broodies when they 1st started laying, haven't had anymore since...but

Are you looking for hatching eggs, chicks?

I livein IL; so our weather is similar..

I ordered:
Rhode Island Reds, Red Sexlinks, Turkens (dont laugh when u look them up!), Barred Rock and black Australorp...

these after much research and talking to ppl here and CS when I ordered, all basically said the same thing:

Great egg layers, docile/friendly, tolerant to cold weathers and tolerant/adaptable to confinements..

GL!
