Need to rant about Wells Fargo!

It makes total sense if you're a bank & want to milk a customer for every last fee you can!

Wachovia has always done this to us, before they sold to Wells Fargo. I hate Wells Fargo, too (we have our mortgage through them), but this is not speciically a Wells Fargo problem, unfortunately.

There are a few very easy solutions to this problem. First you can tell them not to overdraft. That way the issue is between you and the person you bought off of and not you and the bank.....though I prefer the bank know if I am out of money in my account rather than the person I bought from.

Second you can attach a credit cart to your checking account to overdraft onto. We are with chase and it works quite well and only costs us 7.00 plus the cash advance intrest rate.

We have are car loan throgh WF and as long as we don't miss a payment they leave us alone but miss a payment and for months they will drive you nuts. I pay mine through internet banking right to the account, the first time the payment fell on a Sunday, I paid it the Saturday before (computer was set to remind me the day before it was due), but on Monday they called to find the payment, gave the reference # and thought that was it. Nope, they called the next day and the following day - which is when they would have received it due to the the weekend - usually they get it the next day or day after that. Then the following payment is coming up they called me a week before to give me a "friendly" reminder and then called three days before and the day before. They did that for 3 months, till I told them that it can be construde as harassment according to my lawyer as I receive written notice monthly of the upcoming bill date - never talked to a lawyer but they don't know that but it made them back off.

Banking wise, I think we have all become to dependant on our little pieces of plastic the bank assigns us (bank and credit cards).
I try to always have cash on me for the small purchases and if I don't have it, I don't buy. I personally can't explain to myself why I would use my bank card to pay for anything under $5-10. - especially since the smaller stores around here charge an extra fee. Plus it makes it so much easier to go over budget and put us in the hole at the end of the month as those little purchases add up. I go to the bank once a week, take out the budgeted grocery money and take out a little extra for the incase moments during the week like DH picking up milk on the way home, also to give some to DH for coffee while he works. Any grocery money left, goes into a "jar". During the month if I need to buy extra groceries or pay for a surprise trip/project at school I have the extra and at the end of the month if there is any left, I take it to a seperate bank and put it in a savings account. Also I'm the only one with a bank card to the account. This way we can keep better track. We found with both of us having access we would forget to tell the other if we spent any (Christmas was the worsest) and since I keep the "books" and do the shopping we thought it made better sense. We are trying to get our credit cards to zero balance and have put all but one in the freezer as right now I use it to pay for gas for the car then go home and pay it off that night or in the morning before I leave. So every month I work towards paying down the card rather than my newest purchases. My accountant prefers I do it this way rather than taking a chance of loosing the receipts during the year - plus cheaper at income tax time when she does our taxes as she charges extra to go through receipts.

Meh...we don't have credit cards and don't spend money that we don't have. I use my debit card. If I have cash, I go through it quicker without realizing it. I also rely on my debit card for on-line purchases, eggs, clothes for the kids, etc.

USE CREDIT UNIONS! Avoid banks whenever possible. Credit unions are owned by the members. The banks are stock companies, and most of them are owned by foreigners. They cannot take over credit unions like they did the banks.

No wonder the banks invested the TARP money in China.

Keep cash on hand. A safe tucked away in the house is cheap insurance against the unthinkable.

Don't keep all accounts in one name only. That would be the person that becomes incapacitated or dies leaving the rest of the family without funds. When traveling, have travelers checks in both names.

Use credit cards only in dire emergencies.

Yes, I don't spend money I don't have either, my issue was that my work pays me in cash, so I only put money in the bank account when I need to use my ATM card (for online purchases, etc.) so I had the money, but foolishly believed I had more time to get to the bank to make the deposit, because paypal usually takes a while to come out of my account, now that was my fault, I just thought it was rediculous that they deduct the money in order of most expensive to least expensive, instead of the order I purchased them. I would have totaly understood getting 1 overdraft because I didn't get the deposit in in time, but getting three because they took the expensive item out first, even though it was purchsed 2 days after the less expensive item! Common!

Yeah, I got that you were using debit. Just replying to the other person that said not to use cards, period, debit or credit.

yes, that is common.

Had the similar situation. My said it was random order in which the checks are subtracted from an account.... don't think so!!
I got 4 charges instead of 1.

I had the money in another account. I thought I had transferred money but they said I hadn't.

They are happy to take out money from one account to put in another without telling me if I get a returned check but not to cover checks I write... nor would they refund any of the charges.

.... changed banks!!

Just say no to these mega-huge impersonal banks. They are not looking out for you or your best interests. Every community has a small, local bank, be it a credit union or community bank. They need and desire your business and will work with you to keep it. Isn't that someone you'd rather have safeguarding your deposits?

It's not difficult to switch banks with a loan (and even easier with checking) and you will probably even get a better interest rate in the process. All you have to do is *ask*.

Oh, and BTW, most small banks work off all the same ATM machines as the big banks. WITHOUT a fee. Sounds like a winner to me.

But where the big banks get you is... they will charge you a fee for using their ATM... so you're still paying a fee unless you get lucky and find a WaWa somewhere (they don't charge fees to use their ATMs)

So frustrating!
