I don't know if that's the right name for it really. It's polyester, almost exactly like the blue aquarium filter media just thinner and white, actually I used to use it as a cheaper alternative for my aquariums...
This soft foam "noodle" works well for filling in gaps. I use to use it around storefront metal before caulking the gaps. Comes in various sizes.

Yep, that's quilt batting. Have used that for pond filtration too.
Furnace filter for coarse filter, batting for fine.
It won't let much, if any, air thru.

Don't put it where the chickens can peck it, they'll likely eat it.
