I just joined the forum mainly because I really need help hatching 6 Black Copper Maran eggs and 4 Olive Egger eggs. I just bought them Friday and left them out for 24 hours to adjust to room temperature before I put them in the incubator. I put them in yesterday evening and the temp. is staying at 100 degrees Fahrenheit. My only issue is the humidity. My hydrometer reads 80% I know the humidity is only supposed to be 50 - 55% but I have no clue as to how to bring it down that far. I left the top open about an inch today for a few hours, however the humidity didn't change. So i'm assuming my house is just that humid. I know the chicks can drown if the humidity stays that high. Can someone help me find a way to lower it down?

Do you trust your hygrometer? Did you add water? If so, and you trust your hygrometer then lower the water surface area in your incubator. What incubator are you using, and what type of hygrometer?

I have a Zoo Med Thermostat/Hydrometer. When I bought the hydrometer it said 50% humidity. However after I brought it in my house the humidity percentage went up. There is no water in the incubator. I didn't add any because I think it would raise the humidity. I added rice and some oats into the incubator last night in order to try and decrease the humidity. But that seemed to have no affect, it's still sitting right at 80%
