Two of my eggs during my first hatch pipped but just made the hole bigger and wasted all of their energy on trying to cone out of it instead of zipping. So after talking to my grandmother about it and reading some posts on this site i decided to help the first one. Buy the time i finally got him to 'slide' out of the shell i realized he was still attached. Fearing i had messed up and made the wrong decision i quickly ran back to my computer and reassured myself that all would be fine and that his little belly button just needed to dry out and he'll dettatch himself. Later on last night he was just fine hopping around and knocking all the other eggs around without his suitcase attached. lol.
At this point i turned to the other egg hoping he had made some sort of progress but alas.. Picking this one up i started to free the little guy when i realized the inner membrane had begun to shrink and stick to him. Half an hour later i had him free (but still attached just like the other on) with parts of his sheel semi-permantly stuck and the one side all hard and crusty from the membrane that is now there for awhile. For the next few hours any time he tried to move he would fall onto his side and resemble how i found him when i peeled and broke the shell away. I gave him time and i gave him the night to recover and see what he would do. This morning i found hi,m stuck to the wire bottom. After getting him detatched i gave him an inspection. His belly button is all dried up and the shell is no longer his companion, but his bum area where he was on his side all night is blue/purple and he still continues to fall over.
Since then i have built him a throne out of sponges to hold him up right and try to redistribute his weight a little more evenly and it seems to be working because he can hop around without falling most of the time. But his head still lists a little to that side.
Is there anything else i should be aware of? or is there anything else i can do for him?
I know some people don't believe in helping them hatch but this being my first time and hearing their little distressed peeps got to me. I don't believe its entirely their fault though it may just be the chicken they came from.
On another note three other chicks hatched sucessfully before hand but they were different breed from these two.
