Posted a thread earlier, but it’s changed. So overlook: one of our ducks starting about 2 weeks ago started doing these 7-10 consecutive honks, we could teach her to stop or anything, so we lived with it. Later we found it was when a certain person entered or left the room. This person happened to be my dad, at whose house the ducks live at. He was going on a work trip for the weekend so had me take care of them. My mom let them stay at her house so I didn’t have to bike over 2-3 times a day. I’ve been hanging out with them a lot, and now the one hen does the same thing, but at random, or when I’m around. When I get close she also makes soft honks, similar to the sound of a dirt bike. When you cuddle her, she stops and makes happy duck noises. We’ve tried looking into it but haven’t found anything so I though to ask some other people with ducks, that have more experience. Any info helps!

here’s a photo of Winston I got a while back 🥰

My female Pekin, Peep, gives 4 loud honks whenever she sees someone or something in general. She wants to get their attention. When she sees me she does 3 sets of 4 honks. Til I come over and then she mumbles happily while rubbing up against me like a cat or dog might

With Peep when they were inside she would honk at my wife and i would say “Peep! Inside voice!” and she would mumble under her breath and stomp around her pen

It’s just their way of getting attention I think and your dad has a distinct honk like Peep has one for me

I’m chuckling at the fact of peep stomping around angrily ! It sounds adorable. Did you just start doing that and eventuallly she understood? Sometimes I said “hush” when they did it, and it worked for a minute or so

Sound weird but peep and I have a strong bond. I just said it once and she did her quiet grumbling and I cracked up. And maybe she picked up in that cause she does it regularly heh

And she stomped around when she is mad and it’s so funny. She has such a strong personality she makes me laugh every day

I get one loud quack when it’s been too quiet for too long, 5-7 to force my attention. My littlest was the noisiest when I first got her but it’s switched over to my louder bigger girl who calls for me now. I wish they did something cute like stomp and mumble, instead I just get loud and fussy. I shhhhh them but I’m not convinced it really does much 🤷‍♀️🙃
