My poor chick was born with curled toes and has boots. It was the only one who hatched and survived and just went to check on it to see a mass on the side of its neck. it is still chirping and was cuddling with the others when i went upstairs to put boots back on it. Earlier it was eating and drinking fine. My girls are trying to get it to eat and drink now. I have electrolytes and vitamins in the water because I read it was good for curled toes. Need some advice and info on what to do.

My girls said it is eating out of their hands. It is very vocal but has that mass.

Please anyone have any ideas?

That is normal, the crop where the food goes to pass on through the digestive tract. It gets big after they eat. It should go down normally, unless you give your chick things to eat that require chick grit. They need to stay on chick starter pretty much. When they start eating grass or grains, they do need grit to digest food.

Ok. Im just freaking out about every small thing since the last one passed away yest after having to help it hatch and this one having curled toes. My daughter and I actually hand feed it just to make sure it is eating. I'm an overly protective mama right now. Kinda feeling dumb right now. But all of my other NN were alot older when I got them.

Looks to me like it is the crop too. Chickens have this thing before the food goes to their stomach it goes to the crop.

I would continue with the vitamins and electrolites at this point. The bird is quite young and this mass may go away by itself. Key word here is may. There was another thread on here a few days back that had a chick with a 'mass' that did get absorbed by the body. If I can find it i will be sure to post the thread here. Hope spring eternal and in this case you need to do some research on the curled feet, possibly make shoes for it to get the toes and feet to straighten.

We have the toe shoes on it. It actually is very crafty in getting them off. Tonight its shoes are neon green. LOL Only band aids left. It's toes are actually looking 10 times better. At first they were totally curled under its foot. Now it is only a little bit. But I am going to continue it until I leave for vacation on Friday just to make sure. You can see its boots in the last picture. It is so cute.
