Needs ideas to hang water.

I've hung the chickens food off the ground so no more pine shavings in the food. Now I'd like to hang the water. As you can see from the attached pic I can't drill a hole in it to hang it. Any ideas?

This is what I would do. Make a wood platform that is just larger than the base of the waterer, and just put the waterer on top. Use a few boards so that you can make it higher by stacking them up. I just have my water's on bricks for my birds.

I have my water up on bricks too. Shaving still get in it, but nowhere near as bad as before. I''m still waiting for my husband to build me the shelf I asked for.

I have the same waterer. You will need to change it daily because alge seem to like the plastic. I just rinse mine over, you can feel the plastic kinda slippery...just rub till you don't feel it any longer. If you do it everyday it won't have a chance build up.

I also need a hanging waterer.

I mean I really NEED somethin. I have a waterer like the OP and I have this silly bird who knocks it over, so setting it up on blocks or bricks doesnt do it. She takes her foot and puts it IN the water, dirtying it, and PULLS HARD.

Right now, in their pen I have a milk jug I cut out and wired to the corner, and she still actually tore that apart once. I am just not sure how to 1) keep her from dirtying the water and 2) keep her from knocking it over.

any ideas would be appreciated for the coop. Right now I have really been jerry riggin it, the milk jug has been better than anything else I have seen at the feed store tho, but its not easy to unwire and clean out at all.

Thanks for sharin any ideas you might have. Anyone else have a crazy chicken like this?

I have a 3.5 gallon that has a hanger on top, it was around 10 dollars I think, or you could use a cyder block to set it on.

Tractor Supply has hanging waters in gallon and 3.5 gallon. I've been using them and they have worked really well so far. I have the gallon size in each of the individual pens. The nice thing is that they were less than $5.00 each.

I just hang them up like I do the hanging feeders. I also have one in the main coop part setting on a shelf for my layers.

TSC does have a website, just google TSC. They don't ship products though its an actual store. If there isn't one in your area, I found this supplier that does ship and they have a hanging waterer

I bought a metal plant hanger. You know the kind that you would use to hang off of a post. It was only $3 at Big Lots. My dh is gonna hang it off one of the 2x4 studs in the coop. Then I'm gonna hang my waterer from it. I got the plastic waterer from TSC too. I thought this would be more outta the way than if I hung it from a rope or chain from the ceiling.

My hubby is great with coming up with solutions and when I asked him your question he suggested this:

Put the waterer on a flat board, slightly larger than the waterer bottom, (it could be round or square) or anything else you have that it can sit on but the chickens can still reach into the waterer.

Drill holes in three or four of the sides of whatever you are using and use "S" hooks to hang three or four short chains onto. Attach those chains over the top of the waterer to a single chain hanging from the ceiling. They would make a triangle (or such if using four chains) with the point meeting above the waterer.

So, in essence, you are making a hammock to hold the waterer and that hammock is what you attach the chains to.
