I have 16 chickens right now, 2 pullets, 13 hens, and a rooster. I have an older red sex link hen named Ruby who’s starting to slow down a lot, she’s been more reclusive and delayed for about two months now. She’s about 3 and I think she’s going to die some time this year. My neighbor is wanting to downsize her farm by letting her animals die off to old age. She has a rooster and a hen both near the end of their lives. Recently, one of her hens passed away, and her last remaining hen is starting to pull out her feathers. She asked me if I was willing to give away one of my older hens to her to see if that can stop her self harm and fulfill her social needs. I’m thinking of handing over Ruby. Is this a smart idea? Will my hen be fine being relocated?

Sounds like a good idea.

Another possibility would be to relocate the neighbors coop to your yard but keep a barrier between the flocks. This way, the old birds can still see and talk to the younger birds, but have a safe and comfortable place to retire. Assuming the neighbor would be ok with moving the coop.
