Neighbor keeps feeding my cat... suggestions?

My dad used to feed the neighborhood dogs by putting his old bacon grease pots, or anything else he didn't feel like eating. And he was too lazy to wash his dishes. (He was an old man at this time.) At least 2 neighbor dogs we know of died from his over rich food. I ended up finally "keeping my dad indoors," to prevent this and other behavior by putting him in a senior home. He lived there a year and a half. I got a much needed break.

Okay.. My neighbor keeps feeding my cat- and other cats, foxes and dogs. I just saw my cat sneaking in her garden and eating from a bowl that she put there. I called him (my cat) but he ignored me - for obvious reasons. Like she has a dog and feeds other animals (not her) rubbish?!? I know that's just cats but Isn’t there a solution? She is NOT a cat person. I once heard her talking to a friend about how annoyed she was about cats pooping in her garden. HOW CAN SOMEONE EVEN ASK SUCH A STUPID QUESTION?! Then when her cat died she threw his body on my property. She didn’t even care about burying it. She just threw the rotting thing there! I talked to her about the cat feeding problem a year ago but she happily ignored me. My cat is starting to get fat and I don't want him to have any issues. I love him and I really want him to have a nice and long life. I thought about maybe asking her to give the scraps to me and I'll give them to the chickens? She sometimes gave salad to my girls (without my permission) which was btw full of pesticides🙄 Any ideas welcome!
I never thought much about indoor/outdoor cats. When I was a kid we always had a kitty, and let it out. They almost always ended up eventually disappearing. Now we have a gorgeous British Shorthair. We’re bonded. I want him to live a long time. Stays inside…after reading about shorter lifespan for outdoor cats, along with them killing an average of 2-3 birds a day. Feral cats are a pestilence in Australia. Open cat hunting after 8:00pm curfew or something like that. Cats kill everything they can get their claws into, including baby koalas and roos, and it’s not just to eat. They like playing with their food. Not our problem, right. But cats are tenacious killers. It’s good to keep them inside.

If the neighbour is putting food out for other animals, your cat is going to eat it. If you are not willing to keep your cat inside…maybe think about feeding your cat only if and when it is hungry 🤷‍♀️ Frustrating I know…but aside from keeping your cat in, that is all you can do.

Just curious. How do you know the salad was full of pesticides? If, as you say, you love your cat and want him to live a long life, the only thing you can do is to keep him inside. That's it. Others have said the same thing and they are right.

Simple, keep your animal confined to your property. Everyone else has to fence in their dogs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, horses, cows, goats, sheep... why is it okay for your cat to roam free? Really you're lucky she's just feeding it and not something much worse if it keeps going over and pooping in her garden.

Keeping a cat indoors is cruel IMO.

Also this thread is got old and I think the problem is dealt with so I'm probably going to lock it.

You know what else is cruel, trying to weed your garden and having the misfortune to grab a handful of neighbor's cat crap. 🤢
All animals would love to roam free, but they adjust to their environment. A nice big catio with things to climb on and play with is not cruel.
