Neighbor problems... Getting rather frustrated. :(

I love my neighbors where I live now-my neighbors Roo always crows so everyone was already broke in lol. I know someone mentioned a bark collar-just so everyone knows there are totally humane ones that spray a blast of citronella that distracts the dogs bark but causes no harm-they are indorsed by the Humane societys and they work on most dogs, some dogs do figure out to turn their head sideways and bark all the spray out so they can run around and bark their little dauschund rears off (Im talking about my parents adorable brat lol). ALL of us who have owned Corgis know that they have a really hard time keeping their mouths shut-mine is a great dog too (my ex has her now and I still miss her

) but she took lots of training, she really thrived when we did agility with here and she would wear herself out-all of the high active herding breds need their brains and bodies exercised daily. We would have giant corgi parties with up to 25 corgis running together (I used to work at a vet) and wear them out when they were young-Im sure you could imagine the noise from that group but it was an indoor facility that they could just go wild and play til they couldnt run no more. Just remember the OLD SAYING:GOOD FENCES MAKE GOOD NEIGHBORS

I dont know if you are letting all 3 dogs out together at the same time when they have to go later in the evening but if you are taking just one at a time out on a leash would probably help. I had a SN who actually called animal control on me where I used to live on 3 acres and told them that I had left my lab chained to a tree the night before during a thunderstorm. My dog was with me in my old Chevy blazer that night in question, luckly I was out with 3 of my sheriff buddies because animal control took my dog from me and gave me a ticket all over her hear say story-the judge yelled at the animal control officers telling them that they cant go off hear say and had no proof I had done anything of the such especially when my sheriff buddies told the judge my dog was with all of us so I won and got my dog back-thats when I bought my house were I have lived now for 15 years. I believe she was mad because I told her to stop feeding my dog Old Roy dog food since he was allergic to everything and was on a special diet-even though he was a perfect weight for a younger lab he ate like a lab so she thought he was starving and then I opened my mouth and told her that her dogs were way to fat and were going to have major health problems if she didnt quit feeding them so much-I was young then and didnt always keep my opinions to myself. I agree that you need to worry about poison and your dogs because I have seen it way too many times over the years working at vet clinics, most of the dogs lived outside and neighbors apparently got annoyed but it only takes one second for a dog to find a poison meatball in a yard and gulp it before you even know what happened so I would be careful and walk your property before the dogs go out and look for anything if she excels in what she is doing. You have no idea if she is on drugs, alcohol or if she is just mentally unstable-look what people do to people everyday in this country alone. Ok think I ramble on enough-hope everything goes better for you

SilverPhoenix, if you want your dogs to 'do their business' in your back yard you can pick up some of their "stuff" from the front and put it in the back. Dogs tend to go where they have gone before and the smell of their own stuff will help with the transition.

Good luck!

Now, like I said, we're night owls. We sometimes take the dogs out late, we try not to take them out later than 11 PM out of courtesy but sometimes the dogs need to go out later. When the dogs leave the house, they get excited and bark four or five times and then stop and go silent after that. I'm trying to get them to be quiet when I take them out, but they get excited about the skunk that hangs around and just going outside is exciting to them. Most of the time the dogs are in with us, they are not left outside on their own at all. Their barking when they go out is very brief, maybe a second or two, before they go quiet.

Ok, so when the dogs go out, keep them on a leash. At the first hint of a yip, you do an about turn and take the little darlings back inside. They'll soon learn that barking isn't in their best interests. You've got 2 very bright breeds. They can and will learn to keep it zipped IF you are consistent and IF you get them in at the very 1st bark.

Thanks for the training suggestion! I've been declining letting them out and backing off the door when they bark at all, so hopefully that will help as well.

. I was also thinking a bullhorn and whenever she starts that nasty motor mouth....yell into the bull horn "WHAT IS IT WOMAN?" "WHAT?" "WHAT?"

OP: you are doing nothing wrong...ignore the twit. Watch your dogs and make sure they are not outside unattended. I would not trut the wacko.

I scoure craigslist for underground fences and collars - I found my fence, power box, and collars on craigslist last year for 100$ when the system new with 2 collars would have cost 400$+ new - put one of them up around your yard and the dogs will learn they don't want to go across the invisible line to just nose around yours sound like they'd be much easier to train than my exuberant hyperactive chow mix who will fly through the fence and back to chase vehicles if i'm not out with her.

training them so they associating going outside as nothign interesting just routine and training them that barking is something that has consequences and going back indoors won't take much except consistancy on your part.

Cetawin, brindlebitch OMG you two women are my long lost relatives - we all share the same evil plot bunnies. My first thought with reading the original post was 'airhorn her a few times when she starts screaming...she'll learn to shut up' Sunday i installed a motion light on the side of my house with flood lights for the neighbor next door to me whom threatened me and my chickens Friday. haha he learned last night about my new toy to piss him off

he doesn't even live next door - he is a drug dealer who uses his mom's parents house for his dealings. SO long story short - the property line on that side is about twenty feet from that side of the driveway (they have a wrap around driveway over there) anyway he drove through trying to be an arse to me as I was sitting out with my stray kitten who i'm trying to tame...and so he thinks he's going to 'intimate' me with his headlights off and driving like 2 miles an hour around his house...hits right at the corner of where that house is and he realizes the old tree that sits about 80 feet from the drive now has 2 flood lights on it XD lights both side yards up like daytime. We'll see what he wants to do now. heh.
