Neighbor's barn burned last night :(

Your poor neighbors ! We recently lost the barn we use to fire. We lost all chickens65-70,hunting stuff, mechanic, carpentry, landscaping and farming equipment & tools well over $100,000)and of course Fire dept mentioned heat lamp to press even though there was not one running.

We have great barn neighbors!! They may have lost things you take for granted ,pitch forks, shovels, wheelbarrows. We didn't even own a staple gun to post no trespassing signs, we owned 6 prior to the fire. Even something like homemade muffins
are appreciated

Oh I'm so sorry! I can't imagine losing all of that. Thank you for the muffin idea. Maybe we'll bake some muffins since we're already going to be baking for the holiday. Luckily their feed was not stored in the barn, so they are good on that. I bet they'd appreciate the muffins, though.

From what my husband said, they think it might have been the electrical panel that was 40 or so years old. We just recently stopped getting heavy rains, so they hadn't mucked out the stables yet. That probably allowed the fire to spread as quickly as it did. It was insured for $40,000, but you can't have a barn built for that in CA anymore. The quotes were for $70,000 or so. We found out they're moving in a year or so, so my husband suggested they put up a carport that could be dismantled when they leave, and store hay in the carport.

Nine barn cats and some chicks.

That is very sad.

I know..so sad.

I know the chicks would have passed quickly and likely didn't feel it. I hope the cats didn't, either. They (and we) are so glad that it wasn't worse. I was so scared that the horses were trapped in the barn at the time, and I would have hopped their gate to check on the animals if I could. Luckily the fire trucks arrived right after we ran around like crazy waking the close neighbors up so that they were aware in case it spread. (Their property is HUGE and the barn backs up to hundreds of acres of field.)
