Or how about ants actively carrying the poison granules back to the colony?
Thank you for getting back to me, I feel a bit better, also thanks to some more in depth reading I've done on here.
Stories of flocks flying fences and chowing down on large amounts, and so on.

Its not actually poisonous until they chew it and mix it with their (ants) saliva. So it doesn't activate until they are feeding it to their nymphs. They can check out, but they can never leave! (Sorry, it popped into my head).

Idk much about Amdros because it hasn't been effective for me. I think, the ants pack up and just move! My neighbor never lost any of her chickens so, I guess they didn't consume enough. Plus, her ants relocated too! Trying to treat 3 ++ acres for fire ants is about worthless. I just drop the lawn tractor on the mound for the heck of it and then they move again. Lol

As a new chicken raiser, I am baffled by what my neighbor disclosed. Her husband put Amdro, used to kill fire amts all over outside. The problem is she allows them to "Free Range". I love the idea but, the chickens eating the Amdro(Fire Ant killer granules), I just dont know what to say. Do ya'll think her chickens will live?

My concern is, if the chickens ingest ant poison, will the eggs be safe for humans to eat? My uneducated guess is that if we eat chicken eggs, then we eat whatever the chickens eat.

Yes, i think the chickens will live... but they applied it incorrectly. They need to find where the ant hill/nest is, and pour it around that. The ants will be dead within the hour (it activates when they chew it up into a paste and it gets all over them INSIDE the nest). Once they are dead, they can just scoop up the leftovers and trash it. I've used it, no problems.

I wouldn't be spreading anything around that had chemicals in it .Chooks can get hold of anything when they're free ranged.
