Neighbors chicken/ my beautiful yard

St. Augustine grass can handle a lot of nitrogen, but the roots can be scratched up badly. I use a chicken tractor in an area where I want the grass gone in order to plant vegetables later.

We have ginger, too, and my flock likes to scratch at the base of it causing no damage.

Fencing seems the best answer, as others have stated. I can't imagine my flock surviving the free range bird dogs in my area, so my supervised flock is fenced as they scratch and peck. 😅
