Neighbors complained to us about Guineas on their deck, what to do?

Sorry to hear about your unhappy neighbours.

But, honestly, what is wrong with some people... like it's such a big deal to have a few bird poops on their deck... to the point of upsetting them so much they feel they need to complain!!! I think some people don't have enough to worry about in their lives these days. For goodness sake, its only 2 birds... not like before if there were lots of guinea fowl.

If I were you I would pen your 2 up just for a week or 2 so the neighbours know you are making an effort.

Then you could just let them out a few hours a day, so they don't start to wander too far away.

I very good idea would be to buy a couple more Guinea Fowl. Keep the new 2 in the pen. Let your other 2 free. The free ones should stay around the penned up ones.. because they like to be together... and this would stop them wandering off to far.

If all that failed you could buy a cheap bright coloured broom and give it to your neighbours as a present. Tell them they can chase off your birds and scare them away if they come back... and that should stop them coming back in the future. Tell them if that does not work after a week or 2 you will get rid of the Guinea Fowl (even if you just lie about that part it will make them feel better).

Lol...have you ever owned guinea fowl?

I gave mine to my mom because although I dont mind some birds bawking and turkey poop in the driveway, but I have major issues with racket and poop on my front step. I couldn't stand them, so I don't blame the neighbors one iota for not wanting trespassers pooping on their deck. :p

Come to think if it, if I were the owner, I would be beside myself that my animals wouldn't stay home and were being a nuisance to my neighbors. And I would probably be givi g them free eggs just for "babysitting" for free :D

Not meaning anything by it, but sometimes there's nothing "wrong with people", its called mutual respect for your neighbors. ;)

I would personally ADORE a neighbor that quickly and maturely handles a situation like this instead of just "lieing" and pretending its the neighbors problem. It's a responsibility caring for animals, and if we aren't ready to properly handle issues like this in a respectful way, then we probably shouldn't have animals. ;)

Yes. I have 8 guinea fowl, 30 ish bantam chickens, 4 ducks and 2 dogs. 'lol'.

I have better things to concern myself with then getting upset about 2 birds pooping on my land.

This complaint is not about mutual respect, it's petty, annoying, and childish. They have to just chase the birds away. How hard is that? Or just clan their deck. Even wild birds will poop on it.

You would be 'beside yourself that your animals would not stay home'. Well maybe you need to chill our a bit. Guinea fowl and other birds will roam. These people live in the countryside, farmland, with wildlife and nature. Now, it would be different in they were in a urban environment of course. But they are in farm land!

Sounds like you should not have owned Guinea Fowl or Turkeys and done you research before getting them. I would be 'beside myself' if I was just buying random animals and them giving them away as I decided I did not like them.

People who buy animals on a whim and dispose of them just because they have not done there research and found out what these animals require are not very responsible people are they?

Good job you mom sorted your problem out for you. Maybe when you are older you will take better responsibility for the animals you purchase and give a home to.

Wow. Ok...

I think the point of what I was trying to convey might have been missed. ;)

The OP seems to have a good relationship with the neighbors and don't want to offend them. Kudos to the OP :)

The neighbors may not want guinea poop on their deck. It's quite a bit bigger and messier than say, sparrow poop. My mom doesn't mind poop on her step. I did, so I decided that guinea weren't for me. I figured giving them a nice cushy life with my elderly mother was better than eating them. My choice as an owner.

Whether or not it's "petty", its a relationship with the neighbors that's important, at least, IMHO. At least the neighbor is communicating their issue in a kind way and not just having the guinea for dinner ;)

I value my neighbors. If their bull gets in with our cattle, we don't just shoo him out and leave the fence down. The neighbors get called so they know what's going on, and vice versa.

I commend the OP for respecting their neighbors and trying to solve the problem peacefully. It's evidently a trait that doesn't take age to acquire. ;)
