Neighbors dog attacked

I would prefer not to have to shoot the dog, thus the one time warning given via animal control, but will if it comes back. They have children as well, I’d like to avoid a “you killed my pet” scenario if it all possible. But I won’t hesitate to do what I have to if my chickens, cats or kids are in danger. I can understand the sss method of disposal, truly I can. I just really wanted to avoid punishing the dog for being a dog when it’s his owners fault 100%.

I’m sorry for what you’re dealing with and sad that you have to have the conversation with your kids about what happened to their chicken.

I've lost track of the number of dogs it has zapped and which have never returned. Probably 10 by now. To me it is far and away a better solution for dealing with dogs than shooting them, but to each their own.

I understand. I'm just tired of dealing with people. 20 years as a public servant and another 26 in a customer service position.

I spot that dog on my property, it’s as good as dead. Don’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings, but that chicken suffered bad. Let the owner learn how to control their animals.

My guess is that if there is animal control that is active and responds the neighborhood is not an area that shooting a dog would be legal.

It is actually if they are going after the chickens I can.

Just a update: animal control went out immediately and spoke with them, at first it didn’t seem to do anything, dog came back twice and was still in the road. My husband called and spoke with the officer who said he thinks the issue is they have a nanny there all day, he wasn’t sure they got the message. He was gonna head back out but today we see they got a big tie out, and found a card and a sweets assortment in the mailbox. They apologized and had been unaware of the issue. They are installing a kennel but using the tie out in the meantime. We appreciated their effort and that their pets (and our livestock) can all stay alive and happy
